Kettles Yard is the University of Cambridge's modern and contemporary art gallery. It is set in a beautiful house and hosts a remarkable collection of modern art and regular contemporay exhibitions.
Because the house is relatively small, there are limited places and it is likely the visit will be for members only.
In addition to the tour of the house, you will be able to see the exhibition Handpicked: Painting Flowers which has been inspired by the presence of freshly cut flower displays and paintings such as Cyclamen and Primula by Winifred Nicholson in the house. The exhibition will present works featuring flowers by artists spannng the 20th and 21st centuries. When Jim and Helen Ede opened Kettle's Yard in 1947, a key element of their interior displays was fresh cut flowers. The works will include those from the 20th century such as Vanessa Bell, Henri Rousseau, Winifred Nicholson and Christopher Wood, as well as contemporary artists such as Lubaina Himid, Jennifer Packer, Chris Ofili, Caroline Walker and Alison Watt who breathe new life into a much-loved subject.
A more detailed programme will be given soon, but we expect to arrive in Cambridge before 11.00, enjoy tea, coffee and pastries before being divided into 2 groups. One will go to the exhibition while the other tours the house. A light lunch will follow, and each of the groups then go to the part they have not yet seen. Departure will be about 15.30.
